Hi, been away from forum for a while but have learnt lots. Just a query about coloured stones (blue to be exact) in small gravel substrate. I know most people don't recommend it but I did it prior to reading these forums and since it was mixed in and I have a planted tank I left it as is. So far the stones have been in the tank for over a year now.

I have noticed recently that the blue coloured stones are fading or losing the blue exterior showing white stones. Can this loss of blue colouring be harmful to my fish?. What I was thinking is the blue colour, which I suspect is some form of paint, be toxic if eaten by the fish. Anyone with any knowledge on the subject.

So far it does not seem to be affecting them to my knowledge.

Thanks all.

I imagine that there are no side effects of this in the tank. The stones will often fade due to the strong light in the tank, UV can fade most things over time.
I wouldn't worry :)
