Hello from Cronulla,Sydney (6ft Planted Discus Tank)

Hello Forum people,

My name is Rory. I live in Cronulla,Sydney.
(Hoping there may be some others close by). I am a member of Aquariumlife.com as I really enjoy planted aquariums but would love to venture into the discus world and this forum has to be the best there is! (Have also seen a few Aquariumlife members posting here too hehe).

There seems to be so much experience here and I can see some very helpful veterans,posts and members alike so I find myself here to learn.

I actually ended up changing the layout before getting my discus.

I went more Iwagumi style and got 6 Blue Snakeskins.

Wow Rory, your tank morphs quite a bit and I have like them all. What lighting system do you use to achieve the different looks through the day?

Hey Kahuna,

Yeah quite a difference to my first scape haha. I pretty much ripped everything out and changed the whole scape before all my fish arrived.

I am just using two separate T5 Units I got cheap off ebay.
Both units have 4 bulbs I have 4 bulbs in the front unit and 3 in the back unit and theyre both on timers.

3 Geiesmanns dayglo's & 4 Geiesmanns Aquagro pinks.

Nice effect in the tank. I have been researching LED's that do the same thing and have a moon cycle as well which is nice. Plenty of $$$$ though.
Did your discus settle down or still flighty?

Yeah I would love to have LEDs same for me the $$$$ is still pretty crazy.

They have got better...but still so skittish! coming up 3 weeks now.
This still pretty normal?

I dont know Rory. Mine are as quiet as, and I have had them about the same time. My tank is right next to our dinner table and we watch it instead of the TV over dinner. The fish and us all eat at the same time and the little kids make them come up to the glass and follow their fingers and things. Mine will swim into your hands to eat.

Ive got them eating out of my hands but theyre still hiding alot and get scared easy.

Still love them when they all decide to venture out!
