I am wanting to use some kind of substrate for my new 45G tank, but not sure what to use. What do most use for a non-planted discus tank?.
Thanks!

Swimming pool filter sand makes a great substrate. It's easy to maintain, looks good, and the discus love blowing into it to look for food. Best of all it's totally inert so won't alter your pH or hardness.

Thats cool...I am thinking now of going bare. Seems this will make my life easier! :D

Well if your not going too have plants, bare would be the best idea...

If you are using live plants what are some subtrate options?

My new tank where I will keep discus is bare and has driftwoods with java fern and anuabis nana. Those seem to be the only plants that grow well in my other tanks with low light. I might put a very thin layer of gravels on one side to trap the dirt.
