Hey Guys,

I'm needing your assistance, I'm struggling to work out what sex this discus is. I've always thought that it was a male, until recently when I lost a female from my existing pair. The male from the pair is constantly trying to get closer this discus. Well yesterday I put them together, they shimmered together and then started fighting with there mouths so I separated them again, once I did that they started shimmering together with the partition between them. Anyway have a look at the pics and video.

Gday Rob,

Did you separate them due to the lip locking? I'm only a newbie but I thought it was common for cichlids to do this during the early stages of courtship? A buddie of mine thats into other types of cichlids tells me they often do this before "getting down to business".

It's a nice looking fish. I'm hopeless when it comes to sexing. If it lays eggs, I've got a female. If it passes over eggs and they fertilise, then I've got a male : )

Cheers
