Thanks guys. I will post more pictures once i get them to free swim stage.
If the fry turn out like the parents i will be very happy and should't have a problem selling them either.

Just a update........ going well for my second time breeding. just hit 3 week mark. only culled 5 so far and haven't lost any, i'm currently feeding them about 5 times a day with 50% water changes.I removed them from the parents as it seems the parents are getting annoying with them. When i removed them i counted 70 fry :)

Pics soon.

I'd say around 2-3in to give an indication of colour and shape to the prospective buyers.
You should be culling as they grow to ensure that only the best are put back in to the hobby, as well as looking for good specimens for yourself. I'm sure you've seen the results of poor Discus being sold to LFS just for the cash (not implying you're doing that). It weakens the hobby and leads to frustration for the buyers.
Fantastic effort getting them to this stage. By the time they're ready to sell my tank will hopefully be rady to go.. I may be going for a drive to Newy soon. , eh?

Totaly agree mate i found one which i called one eye pete he got culled preaty quickly :P i think i have culled about 8 so far.As far as the LFS go around here there is nothing decent i'll have a look whenever i'm in the area.I went to one the other day and told him i was breeding discus and i may be able to sell him some, he was preaty much telling me he wouldt pay anymore than 15 bucks for a 6cm quality fish so that is why all the LFS don't have decent fish.

But like you said we have to make this hobby better,so culling has to be done noone likes doing it but has to be done.I'm trying to get this 5 foot tank cycled so i can move these guys to a bigger tank to get them to grow up nicely :)

Awesome Jon.. Great to see a person that's more concerned about the quality of fish in the hobby than the potential earnings.

I saw some juvie Discus at a LFS yesterday; all about 8cm, all severely under fed, all with fin rot and all jet black in colour.. Bargain price of $85ea!!!! It makes me sick..

Be sure to PM me when they're ready to go

Bad news the fry seem to have caught gill flukes from the parents even though i treated them with prazi before they laid eggs so treating them with PP at the moment only lost one fry after first treatment and a huge recovery after the first treatment. Also treating the parents again at the moment..I really dislike gill flukes

Good luck with the treatment Jon.. I hope you don't lose any more.

+1..

I'll be putting them in a planted tank, so it would be great if they had a bit of size to them - I don't have the space for another tank to grow them out :(

Hey AXL sorry to hear about your fish by the way .... i know how it feels as i went away for a weekend had my brother feeding my fry and when i returned home only 3 left. The flukes killed quiet a lot and maybe they was too used to getting there daily water changes and when they missed two.

I got these guys not as a pair but they paired up soon after getting them.I got them from a local guy selling he's stock which he was breeding etc here in newcastle.

After all that hard work, guess we'll have to wait for a new batch.

Yeah i had 40 left and now only 3 left i guess it's better than lossing them all. They had flukes so i had been treating them with prazi they eneded up doing nothing . did a few treatments PP seemed to go alright and killed it off.

I have treated the parents with a long overnight pp bath and its finally done the trick they have laid again but nowhere near as much as before i only have 10 fry nearly ready to freeswim.

After loosing that many discus and all the hard work really made me want to sell everything and go on a holiday overseas but im going to keep trying with them. :)
