View Full Version : White Stools..

I have a nice leopard that has white stools.

Eating well, the only obvious changes are that the right eye is less colourful than normal & he is separated from the main group where he used to be dominant.

I took these pics using my Maggy Lamp for lighting & magnification. Bit rough but I might try again tomorrow. Sems to be no shortage of samples at the moment.
After watching the stool for a while little worms like planaria seemed to come out of the segments. As they left the stool they got longer & thinner, to about 8mm. There are smaller ones around 1-2mm.

I tried to add a drop of Methyl Blue to stain the white bits but I used too much & they seem to have died.

I have recently (in the last month) treated with Big L and Paracide.

Any ideas on the bugs?
Do I treat with Prazi or Metro?

Thanks

I am thinking tapeworms as some of them look segmented and because they are macrosopic. Isolate then do another round of Big L and epsom salts to try and purge them when you see him have normal stools re medicate the main tank again when you are sure they all have normal stools you can re-introduce him.

Thanks Kath,

Yeah, macrosopic. (Hand me that dictionary..)
I am only 3 chapters into my old TFH book on diseases, haven't seen it yet.

The largest discus started with the white stools so I am going to do the whole tank. Twice if required.

I am using the Vetsense Kilverm 1ml/7L & 1 tspn/40L Epsom salts after 50% wc.
No unusual behaviour.
Soaked some FD Blackworms in tank water and they are currently munching away.
Cleaning the tank floor as often as necessary.

I used Methyl Blue at 25% recommended dose to see if there was any effect until I could get the Levamisole.
When I monitored the stools as before there was no worm activity that I could see but there were a few dead ones on the bottom of the tank. :D

Thanks for your help,

Dave

If they are segmented worms you want to use Praziif they are round worms levimenisole
I don't like the hollOw sections in the stools if I were you'd treat with big l on weeks 1 3 and 6, do a metro treatment on week 2 and a prazi treatment weeks 4 and 5

Illusn,

when I first saw the worms they were small and reminded me of centipedes.
As they stretched out they became wormlike.

The fish are developing "colour" so things are working.
I'll see how they are after the first 3 days before committing to the metro.
Just being cautious.

Thanks for your advice.

I'd upload some pics but I can't get him to be still long enough.
I think they can sense the infra-red in the autofocus??
Might try it on manual.

Did a second dose of Kilverm 3 days after the first.
Stools were still white but lost the lumpy bits.

I have done a 70% wc and am now into the week 2 Metro at 25mg/l.
Lights off?

I'm a bit worried about the comment on the Metro / Prazi sticky about BNs.

I have 4x ABN as a cleanup crew.
Should I remove them?

Thanks

Dave
