They are Standards - Smooth Hair.

Daschund are very regal in nature, quiet and humble. Standards Originally bred to collect Badgers from their burrows, and minitures - rabbits.

They are a miniture Doberman. Highly Intelligent and excellent Guard Dogs - Big Barks and not afraid to attack if they have to.

We would love to keep them, but already have 3 sausages in our home.

This is our 3rd litter from Charlotte, All of our pup's except for one who has moved to the USA return to pay us visits from time to time as we know everyone our dogs have been sold to including clients of our store.

Our sausages are very special members of our family.

I'll post some more pics soon of Mum and a better shot of the Red Female pup.

Hi George,

Thanks for the information.

I will send a link to this thread to my friends though they did not indicate much interest.

I have been showing my dogs Saturday and Sunday so haven't been online much.

Regards,

Bob

Thanks Bob,

Which breed do you show?

Hi George,

Just a couple of pics of my highly strung dogs. You can just see the nervous energy that drives them.

Used for the same job as your Dachshunds, taking badgers in their setts and keeping down the vermin in the top end of England. They were also favoured by poachers as they are silent hunters and were cross bred with sight hounds to produce Lurchers. Lur being the Gypsy word for thief.

Do you know the breed?

Regards,

Bob

Hi George,

They are Bedlington Terriers, one of the older terrier breeds recognised by the International Canine Federation. Lovely dog, minimal shedding and compatible for many people with allergy/asthma problems. THey do require regular grooming though and the "hairstyle" was developed when they became a "fashionable" dog to be shown by "Ladies".

Do not allow the appearacne to belie the nature though, they are more like "A boy named Sue" than Liberace.

Regards,

Bob

Hi all,

no pun intended :D , but as I am of German origin and love these dogs the name needs to be adjusted - they are correctly called "Dachshund, Dackel or Teckel".

These dogs have been bred to hunt badgers out of their underground homes, and badgers are called "Dachs" in German, hence the name ("Hund" means "dog"). As the badger warrens are long and low the dogs have been bred to have a lowered "chassis", so that they fit into the warrens & are able to chase the badger out of his home. Upstairs the hunter would have his gun ready - many a Teckel erroneously paid the ultimate price and went to heaven for this.

What I personally like about these guys is that they have loads of character, are tough as nails and do have their own head - anyone wanting to have these guys needs to be aware of this. You can get them flatcoated, rough-coated and longhaired, and in various colours.

The dogs pictured are great examples, nice looking guys ! Anyone looking for a good mate should go for them.

Cheers, Florian
