Hi All,

I am in the process of setting up a 450L iwagumi style tank, that I was hoping in the long run to keep four or five discus in. Are iwagumi tanks and discus mutually exclusive? I haven't really seen any iwagumi tanks with them in there before, not sure if that's an artistic choice, or if it's just not practical to keep discus with a bunch of rocks?

Thanks in advance for your advice :D

Hi there, purely an aesthetics based thing really - most Iwugami creators choose to run with micro fish just to suit their scape.

Bear in mind that Iwugami plantings generally need very high light and there is no-where for Discus to get away & chill in the undergrowth or shade i.e. no "cover" for them whatsoever. I can't imagine what would happen to even well established HC as they forage for food :)

Hmmm, I didn't think HC would really be an issue since I have seen a few ada style tanks with HC and discus in them. Anyone else have opinions on that? :D

For what its worth, some (like me) don't have the experience to provide a meaningful opinion but are still interested in learning by following your progress. The "views" count in any forum is really no indicator of support or popposition.

For what its worth, from my long association with Discus (only 6 months!) I would guess it should work given so many are kept in bare tanks, though I would expect the fish to be happier in an environment with lost of hidey-holes. :)

Cheers,
Scott

They will be fine but IMHO I think it would be all that visually appealing. The reason for using small fish in such a scape to make the scape appear to be on a much larger scale than what it really is. Adding such last fish really goes against what you are trying to achieve scape wise.
