G'day - I came across this filter (Aquael UniMax 700) for a reasonable price - it comes with 15L media capacity, 1700 L/hr flow rate and 2 x inlets + 2 x outlets.

Has anyone used this filter and would you recommend it for a 6x2x2 tank with messy fish.

Cheers
Tim

Yeah look they are Polish and do have a bit of a reputation in Europe as a "up and comer" but otherwise are a bit of a unknown. for a 6x2x2 with messy fish I'd be getting Eheim 2080 or 2180's .... but thats $$$$

I see - Thanks, Taksan. I guess they must be good in Polishing water :)

Yeah, I was a bit worried about things like parts, etc, given that it is not as established in the market as Eheim.

By the way, would you consider 2 x 2075 filters as equivalent to a single 2080? I'm thinking it might be better to have two smaller filters than just one single large one.

2 have the media capacity but not the same turnover through the media if you know what i mean.

still 2x2075 would do the job if you had the cash

If you want to go cheap (but effective) go on ebay and buy 2 x JT304 filters (about $99 ea) they buy a Eheim 2080 media pack (about $175) and use the media in the filters.
Best value on the market in cheap canisters IMHO.

Thanks guys. I've been eyeing the JT304s for a while, but always had a question mark as to whether it would potentially flood my home :)

Taking money out of the equation, would you go for 2 x 2075s or 1 x 2080? (I can source them at similar prices).

Cheers

Believe it or not ... they are surprisingly good. Lube the orings with Vaseline and check the UV is sealed and they would give you similar performance to the 2 x 2075's. Where people get into trouble with the JT304's is they they almost always come from Ebay and the UV seal and lid seals get loose during shipping. If you check and reseal them they are safe as houses.
As to your question ... I'd guess the 2 x 2075's vs 1 x 2080 is personal preference. They would perform about the same but I'd go the two separate filters as you could have one at each end for better circulation. My 6x2x2's have 2 x 2080's each side and a 2078 in the middle.... but I'm nuts.
