I have lost two MALE rams in 36 hours.

They were about 9 months old - no other fish introduced into the tank for 2 months.

No obvious illness or parasites.
1. Loss of Colour.
2. Quite / not moving much.
3. Skimmimg tank surface occasionally.

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Ph 6.8

Any ideas to the cause?

I now have the third and remaining MALE with a red/pink sore/blister (2mm diameter) to one side of the dorsil fin - in line with the front of the fin.
Still has good colour, is eating and active (at this stage)

No parasite evident ?

Any thoughts ?

All the females (widows!!!!) seem OK

Thanks,
Ray

Can you get a picture of it, it will really help. Any red lines in the fins?

siding with Noddy here, looks like an ulcerated boil, usually caused by TB, not good if thats what you have.

Jothy

I thought it may be an injury from fighting he had 3 males in with females all around spawning age but unsure of the size of the tank.

could be it looks infected, an ulcerated wound could be from fighting, if no other fish are effected then clean water might bring him back

Thanks,

Could be a wound as it appeared suddenly and I now have three females to one male.

Out of interest, what is TB (not tuberculous ?) and how is it treated?

How do you get it if you have not introduced fish or plants for months ?

The tank is 280L
