After many years I'm getting back into Discus.

I'm currently setting up a new tank and apart from Amazon Swords I don't know of other suitable plants that will take discus conditions.

My previous tanks were bare bottom breeding tanks.
The new one has a sand subtrate.
Not interested in CO2 addition, just a simple set up.

I have found an on line website selling aquarium plants but don't know the name of suitable plants.

Any assistance much appreciated.

In my tank the Ambulia, Amazon Swords, Echinodorus tenellus and Aponogeten tofus are all doing well.

The Java Fern, Java moss, Peacock Moss, Valinseria and Crypts are living, but certainly not thriving.

I also had/have some bolbitus in there. The rhizomes are still green, but have become completely leafless.

I does with liquid ferts occaisionally and intend trying DIY CO2 to see if it makes a difference.

My tank usually runs at 30C, ph 6.5. Lights on twice a day - 2 hrs in the morning and 7 hrs of an evening. Its a 6 foot tank running 2 x 3foot T5HO 10,000k and 4 x 2 foot T5HO 6500K.

Cheers,
Scott

I currenty have Staurogyne Tropica, Needle and Narrow Laef Java Fern, Red/Malay/Tricolour Lotus', Narrow Chain Sword, Various small Crypts, Blyxa and Anubius Nana. All are thriving with no CO2. Sand substrate with root tabs as needed, occasion liquid ferts and liquid CO2 substitute. Lighting is around 2wpg T8 6500k.

This isnt the best pic but it will do:
