What are everyones thoughts

Fluval g3 or Eheim pro 3 2080

Looking at running 4x18x18 and want a good filter.

Or are there other suggestions?

And does anyone own the FLuval g series that could give it an honest review

It depends on what you're going to keep in that tank, stocking level, feeding regime, WC regime, etc.

Either one will set you back $700-800 with media. I'm sure that you're prepared for that.

Without knowing the details, I'd go for 2x Eheim 2217 or even 1x 2260.

Click me for a relevant review (http://www.discusforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7080)

I have experience with neither, but I ponder if an FX5 is relevant in this case. I've heard that the ease of maintenance of the FX5 is a big selling point, but even the review above hints on the sheer filtration capacity off the 2080 ;)

I've just purchased a 2nd hand 2080 and am preparing to set it up. The review included above actually helped me decide to go for the Ehiem over the Fluval and at the time I paid about the same amount for the Eheim as a new FX5.
The 3 big selling points for me were filtration capacity/efficiency, lower power consumption and the regular shape of the Eheim means it takes up less floor space in my cabinet.
It also has a lower output fow rate for the same filtration capacity, meaning I'll have less concerns regarding excessive current in the tank.
As for maintenance, the hoses are on a quick disconnect that blocks and releases all three in one action, then the baskets just lift out of the canister - can't get much easier than that IMO..
