The Apistogramma cacatuoides is not overly fussy about water parameters providing the water is clean. I have kept them in water PH 6 to PH 7.6 without incident. IF however you want to breed them you, as the fish keeper, will need to be fussier about water parameters. PH neutral is a pretty good place to keep cacatuoides

I read in another mag they need soft acidic water. So much conflicting information out there. Thats allright the fun part is finding out for yourself.

the reasons that make Apistogramma cacatuoides so popular is that they are a lovely fish and are easy to keep. The PH of the water and the temperatures of the water can be a determining factor to gender ratios of any ofspring produced so when breeding we need to ensure the water is suited to that purpose.
