Anyone who is familiar with my work knows I can't take photos to save my life. Personally I blame it on the crapy camera I own (cheap digital camera), rather than an inability to take an in focus photo.

Some people ask me why I bother putting up crapy pics. And I answer, so people know I do keep some pretty nice fish, you just can't tell from the photos.

There's a reason why I prefer Ryan (japes) to take photos with his hideously expensive camera equipment.

I have a trio of Apistogramma erythrura and my male is identical to the male on the cover of Cichlid Atlas 1. Usually they are next to impossible to photograph as they are generally shy and dart for cover unless your sitting pretty still. Today I did a tank clean on thier tank (and the trifasciata tank next to them) and there was no where for them to hide. It was fun watching the male erythrura and male trifasciata flaring at each other through the glass. Anyway a couple of bad photos.

They kind of look like photos of fish only blurrier. ;)

Seriously though, i'd love to see a better pic of the first guy.

Like I said, look at the cover of Cichlid Atlas 1. He's just a little stressed from having all the logs and leaves pulled out of his tank, and a big hose almost siphon him up.

hey man, we all gotta' start somewhere. Photographing fish ain't easy even with good gear. At least give yourself credit for having a go. It's a start and I am sure you will improve. I myself ain't happy with my aquatic photograhpic endeavours but...like you, I give it a go :-)

I say the measure of an aquarist is healthy fish - mainly cause my photos are also focus optional. They look happy and healthy.

You will also notice you will never see a picture of my fresa - as they always hide under the filters/ logs.

Like GB says, are you a photograher, or a fishkeeper??

Nice looking fish (checked cichlid atlas ;)).

Any photos good enough to display of my fish have all been taken by my mate - I'm rubbish at it too..
