Hi all,
I recently had to farm out my Discus setup in to a good mates' fishroom for safe keeping while I head away again with work. I have 3 confirmed pairs left since selling off some of my fish over the last couple of weeks.
My Blue Diamonds remained true to form, spawning within a few days of the water change (100% change in this case because of the relocation of their setup), which was the day after I left the country. :(
I offered any fry that he got the grow out as 'room and board' for caring for my fish for the nest 3mths, pretty fair deal I'd say.
He sent me some pics tonight.. enjoy.

Thanks Kath. Check this out..

That mate of mine is doing something right. Here's a second pic he's just sent to me..
My Red Rose pair (female pictured) has spawned within the last couple of hours. The eggs are a bit hard to make out but they've laid on the glass in the corner of the tank.
That's my Sunset Beauty female in the background, he's putting a divider in the tank in the morning.
Exciting stuff... I just wish I could be there to enjoy it! :D

So happy news for you Swampy! Great to see that your Discus are all spawning! Nick from Sydney Discus World Aquariums also sold me two breeding pairs which have bred many times already :D

I suggest anyone who wants to breed discus pop down to his new store at Sydney Markets Plaza to have a chat.

Hope to see updates on the progress of you and your mate's fry.

Cheers guys!

I originally got the Red Roses from Nick - good bloke!
Like other stores, he has his days where the stock isn't always perfect due to being the last of a shipment etc, but the vast majority of my experiences with him have been excellent. I drive for over 2hrs from my place to get to his shop so that must be saying something ;)

How ironic.... I'm in the Army and happen to be away on Ops as we speak.

The drive is worth it when you end up with specimens like this and Nick is always willing to give you his time, excellent service.

Cheers,

Swampy ;)

Hi all,

Time for a quick update..

I just recieved a couple of pics from my mate about my Blue Diamond pair..

FREE SWIMMING FRY!!!

You can see a couple of them in the water column above the adult, the rest on the pot. The pair have been busy gathering them up and putting them back in place on the pot.

This is a major mile stone for this pair. The fry have always been eaten before this point so fingers crossed :D

Have a close look at the adult and you'll see this photo was brought to you by the Apple I-phone :)

Update time..The latest installment from home.

The Blue Diamonds still have approximately 20 fry on the go. Not bad for their first attempt past wriggler stage.

The Red Rose and Sunset Beauty look they might even be the pair spawning in the other tank.. First guess was the Red Rose justed wanted to look on but the photos don't lie. Unless they're 2 females going through the motions, which happens on occassion. I guess time will tell when/if they hatch.

Special mention goes to my mate's new DIY Brine Shrimp hatchery. I only mentioned to him yesterday that the Discus fry will be ready for BBS in about a week and presto! Very neat and looks like he'll be able to feed an army of fry - if he posts pics of his setup you'll understand that he needs this many!! His room stays a fairly constant 28C so no need for a heater. I think it's a pretty cool little setup. Nice one mate!!
