Been itching to get a discus pair for a little while now and i came across this pigeon blood pair the other day and couldn't resist!

I bought them from B & C Aquarium at Matraville (excellent aquarium). Barry said these (and all his discus) were imported from Penang.

These guys have a few flaws but they are still pretty nice to me.

Fingers crossed they breed for me!

Here is the male

Hi Matt,

I think you have the sexes mixed up, what you think is the male I think is female, but please prove me wrong if it turns out that you are right

There are several flaws in both fish, I would have held out for better quality, specially for a breeding programme. If they were bargain price, then they will give you some fun trying to breed them, but looking at the fish, there will not be many stunners produced from them.

But.... enjoy them Matt, it is fun to raise fish, you know that already.

Hi Andrew,
It maybe that when Matt posted the photos the pics were mixed up, but classically (or should I say 'generally') PB's display a difference in the dorsal and anal fins. In my experience, the males show when maturing a spur or sharpening of the rear end of the fins, whereas the females generally show a more rounded end to the fins.
Now I say 'generally' because for different strains of PB's this does change, take Marlboro's for instance, the fins to me look the same both male and female. But for these, colour intensity is generally the rule.
But like I said, I will be proved wrong whne the male lays eggs

Hi Steve
There are some things it hard to explained in a language.

Immidiately by looking at the fish I could tell it.

I have been about 99% correct even from 8 to 9 cm juvies stage.
And bread the females I bought from that size and proved.

When it comes to the pigeon strain I should have add a ? at the end of my statement so perhaps you could tell me please if they are pigeon strain.

Best Regards
Tony
