Having opened my big mouth...
and missing out on the A. baenschi

I bought a pair of the A jurensis....
(sp "Black Chin")
Very happy with the investment....female is bright yellow and guarding a flower pot....Males is chasing everything else in the tank

Whilst doing a bit of research...I found they are part of the "cacatuoides" group
I also found this.....I would really like some of these!!!

Wow! Who needs line bred variants when you have wild caught cacatuoides like that. And that's the first cacatuoides I've actually liked the look of.

Im with Briztoon, Ive never kept a A. cacatoides in my life, but I would certainly love some of these!

Mind you I cant really believe the fluoro pink on the ventral fins is real

Will be interesting to see how they colour up as they get bigger!

I don't like using that RVA site as a reference. I think there colours on some of the fish are exagerated - or possibly fankenfish. I do not believe that is an accurate picture of a wild cacatoides they have pictured. However wild cacatoides do look good from the true pictures I have seen.

All the jurensis we have had in the country are probably actually Apistogramma "black chin". This is my favorite reference site.

Jurensis is like viejita, or cruzi - not in the hobby.

p.s. What happened Rod - no Fresa?

Hi Steve,

Perhaps you are correct....but if you look through the RVA site they have some very ordinary looking fish as well???
Amazing how many variants of most species there are!

Hope my "black chins" colour up like the images on your preferred site

No " Fresa" at this stage....
Hoping you will buy some and we can trade fry!!!

Mind you that is subject to change at any given point of time....

The RVA site has some "true" jurensis....blue lips and small black mark on the chin...so they are in Japan!

I would never have picked that as a cacatuoides and I also agree that a lot of those RVA pics do tend to look "touched up".

I expect most wild cacs would look more along these lines.

Google seems to struggle a bit with the translations on some of the RVA galleries.

I've stumbled upon "Big tits rare collection part 1"

I swore no to the Fresa - but I am tempted - they did look good when first in - temptation. Luckily a week in vietnam and then a week in Noosa for holidays should slow me down.
