I am 1 week into the fishless cycle, one dead prawn inside, and drift wood and gravel. Do plants play any role in the fishless cycle? Is it OK to add plants early on? I was thinking of a few plants and some fertilizer?

I would plant your tank but hold off on any ferts. It'll take a few weeks for your plants to settle in. When "growing well" they will absorb some iof your nitrates.

are you using a plant friendly substrate ? If bnot you 'mose' well place some foertiliser tabs under your plants. No liquid ferts until you know you need them

take care
