Hi guys,

Can you vary the beefheart mixes here by adding beef liver or kidney to the mix? Also, can you substitute beefheart with lamb heart? If not, what are the problems with using lamb?
My local woolies keeps it all as a standard line in the butcher's section with the fresh pet meat product.

Lamb I would say is too fatty
any fat will foul your tank and filters it floats and leave a grim at the water line
I've made a lot of beef heart and the one's I was a bit slack on (not removing all fat) were not as well received by my discus.

You can use lamb hearts but Beef heart is alot easier to remove all the fat and sinew from . I have read that you can add liver to your mix but i have never done this .
