Some of Mrs Old Dave's fish. So what do you think?

They have paired off and have had eggs many times.

The question is, how do I know if they are 2 females?

I'll address the "elephant in the room" issue when I see your comments.

I understand the blue one is a checkerboard turq, but is it a red or blue?Does the other one have a proper description?

Thanks all,
Old Dave

Hi Old Dave,

I would be thinking the blue is a blue turq (F) and certainly much better than anything in my tank. I would be leaning towards male for the red due to the extension on the dorsal fin.

In regards to determining male or female if you can observe them spawning you should be able to see which (one hopefully) is laying eggs you shouldn't see anything being deposited by the male.

While I can see the elephant I have no comment to make regarding his presence.

Regards,

Bob

OK.
5'x2'x18".
5 discus, 3x Rams, 1x 7" GS plec & 1x clown loach (lost the others  ).

The red discus is female. Lays eggs every 1-2 weeks.

The blue one is there at the egg laying ceremony but doesn't seem to make a run to fertilise the eggs.

The blue one eats the eggs within 24hrs. 5-10 eggs are white within 12hrs.

The tube on the blue one seems to indicate male but the fins seem to look more female.

I suppose the best proof would be fertile eggs/wrigglers.
Should I try a cage around the cone next time?

Thanks All,

Old Dave
