They might as well be rabbits cause they are breeding like them

This female koi marble veiltail was responsible for the 'monster spawn'....

I then put her with this smokey veiltail and these are pic of the second spawn i have had from them.

The first spawn is almost 2 weeks old and these are about 3 days old wrigglers.

All are doing well and they should produce some great varieties in their offspring.

Any of you genetic geeks out there know roughly what they should produce????

looking damn good, just watch out for runts in the litter, the veiltail gene is deleterous in a double dose.

no mate, assuming both your adults are hetrozygous, they eah carry 1 veiltail gene, if you get a normal distribution of fry (which you should would such a big spawn) expect 25% normal, 50% veiltail (normal growth rate with 1 veiltail gene) 25% runts with 2xveiltail genes, these fish will grow at about 1/2-1/3 the rate of the oothers, just like my albino angels I've got growing up now from my silver angel spawn.

ok so is it best to cross a veiltail with a normal fin???

and should i cull the 25% runts???

thanks mate, as always you're very helpful

runts will grow up fine just really slow, they're only a problem if like you you need the space to move on new fry. if you cross a normal with a veiltail you should get 50/50 with no runts.

if you need space later on send the runts to me and I'll grow them up for you in then new 5x2x2.5 in a big under stocked tank they'll grow as fast as they can. they'd make good breeders cause crossing a homozygous veilfin with a normal should give 100% veilted fry. it will just take forever.
