Sup guys, I will be owning discus for the first time in around a month or so and would like to know which medicines should be on hand from the get go.

Should I medicate fish the moment I get them home?

How exciting to get some discus :D

I think the most commonly used meds are:

1. Metro for hex.

2. Prazi for tape worm and fluke.

3. Multi cure type med which contains formalin and malachite green for white spot or velvet.

You shouldn't have to treat the guys when they come home, as long as they are not sick and your bringing them to a discus cosy environment.

I am a relative newb and after a month ended up treating my first 2 tanks for something but it was mainly brought upon by poor water conditions. However my last purchase of 2 adult turqs have been sickness free for a couple of months now.

Salt, triclorfon, metronidazole i always have in the medicene chest. Treating with praziquantel 2ppm for tapeworms when you first get discus is prob not a bad idea but i don't like it for flukes as the dose rate required to control them is far too high, its too expensive and it doesn't work as well as cheap meds like triclorfon.
