Hi,

I'm just wondering about the sizing of UVC's. I have a De Bary AN15E (15W with electronic ballast so it's about 18W effective power). De Bary state "max water flow for 99% effectiveness is 1700lph so at 750lph I'm well inside that. However in the fine print, the 1700 lph applies to Bacteria, Algae and Virus. To kill various protozoa the stated max flow must be a tenth of that and I would need the AN-55! So my question is, do protozoa pose a disease risk to discus and should I have upsized to 55W UVC for my 300L discus tank?

Cheers

Dave

protozoa are THE risk to discus, they are the cause of hex and to some extent plague.

Cheers,

That's what I thought. Think I might get a 50W for my display tank then and move the 15W to my breeding tank.

The 15E will be fine for your 300l tank. I had one on my 430l tank and it was great.
