Hi All!

I currently have my 125 setup with Central american cichlids (Driftwood, plants, pool filter sand) I am wanting to convert it over to a BB discus tank. I have 2 Filstar XP3 canister filters, I also use RO/DI water however after reading I see that a lot of people mix in tap water with RO water. I live in Florida were our water is very very hard.

My big question is heaters, should I buy one 500w heater or buy 2 250w so there is a back up heater in case one fails?

Thanks for the advice!

Seeing that you are in Florida where it is a bit warmer than here in England, I think 2 x 250w's would be ok.

Yes my cichlid tank now stays at 77 with no heater, however with discus I need it to stay stable. I plan on keeping the driftwood with the bare bottom...is that a good idea? Also I us DI water should I still use that and just mix in tropic marine or RO right? my PH is 6.5 now with my cichlids.

What books would you recommend for keeping Discus?

Thanks!
