breathing through 1 gill

My new discus although swimming and eating is only breathing through 1 gill. I am sure I should treat with prazi but wanted to check if prazi does kill off all the good bacteria in my canister filter?

So I have my tablets. In a standard 3ft is 6 tablets correct. Sorry I know you all get sick of answering the same questions but I just need to know I am doing it right. :oops:

I calculate a standard 3 footer - 900x450x350mm with the water level about 40mm from top to be around 130 litres assuming barebottom. That's 6 1/2 tablets, better to be just a bit over than not enough so I'd use 7

If you have gravel, then 6 would be plenty

Every time I use prazi I get a ammonia spike which takes about 5-6 days to go away so it must be killing some of the bacteria.

I've done the first treatment with 50% water change and filter clean on Saturday morning. The bugger has started breathing through 1 gill again tonight. Is there anything else that could be causing this? I have checked ph,ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels all good. Where to go from here? I am not due to re treat until Wednesday night.
