Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience or done any research on the use of bluestone in a discus tank. I'm setting up a new tank at the moment and have found a supplier of some nice pieces which would fit the design but would like to check first.

I've been soaking some in water (plastic buckets, not the tank) and they seem to be very hard and inert, and theoretically not that different to the 'lava rock' sold in LFS. However, pieces I've collected from the beach and have been soaking seem to be much softer.

I'm primarily concerned about impact on hardness/alkalinity. Any thoughts/experiences?

Thanks,
Doug

Hi Doug, I have in my hermit crab water pond rocks collected from the beach and after a period of time they crumble into bits. It's ok for the hermies but I couldn't say for a freshwater aquarium.
