Hey we're in NZ and we're wondering what are the rules regarding buying Discus from Aussie sellers and getting them sent to NZ, like are there strict custom regulations?
(Didn't know where to put this thread in the forum)

Cheers

haha was going to say Im not making a toll call - who knows how long I'd have to wait on the line for

Have contacted a few breeders both in NZ and malayia etc...I'd better save up if I plan on importing, got a rough idea of the costs

at least you'll get quality discus - it will be worth it and you might be able to supplement your cost by importing enough for your discus keeping friends

we are thinking about investing in a couple of 8footers - should that be sufficient enought to house a few batches? What size holding/growing tanks do people use? - PLEASE use Litres...no idea what conversion rate gallons equals

I did - it came up with two gallon forms and imperial one and a US one I think, differing by 1 gallon so I get confused and don't know which one I'm supposed to be using

Ok I have done a calculation for you on various 8 foot tanks, decide how many fish you can cope with and any one time and decide from there what size tank you should get.
this is based on 1 adult fish per 40 litres others might might want to increase the litres per fish to be safe, it will depend a lot on water conditions filters airstones, surface area.....

inches feet cm litres no. Discus
96x24x24 8x2x2 244x60x60 878.40 22

96x24x28 8x2x2.3 244x60x70 1,024.80 26

96x24x36 8x2x3 244x60x90 1,317.60 33

96x30x30 8x2.5x2.5 244x76x76 1,409.34 35

96x36x24 8x3x2 244x90x60 1,317.60 33

sorry the table doesn't come out well on the post you'll have to use the heading as a guide

wow so I could just have one 8footer per shipment 8-) this will not do me any favours in trying to save up for my big O.E

With a tank this size do people still use sponge filters or do people prefer sumps or canisters? Also - are there people out there that use two canisters at the same time and cut back on water changes?
