Hey guys,
I'm new to discus and all, so was just wondering, If I get a 50G tank and turn it into a community tank, how many discus can I have in there? I was also thinking of Dwarf Gouramis, but didn't know if they got on well with discus.

Cheers Guys

Leane,
I think it depends on :
- How many fishes (other fishes, not discus) you keep and the species
also important. If you keep 6 adult discus with 100 cardinals, it's okay
then. But if you choose 100 angels as your discus tankmates, it's not
okay. Size and behavior of the species must be considered.
- It also depends on frequency you do the water changes. If you do it
once a day 10-20% of tank's volume, maybe you can keep more than
6 adult discus.
About your choice, dwarf gouramy (Cholisa Chuna, if I'm not mistaken) is a good and peacefull tankmate for your discus. Several years ago, I do keeping this species with my discus in my community tank. This species is among my favourite choices for my discus tankmates. Others are dwarf pencilfish, cherry barb, bleeding-heart tetra and of course, cardinal tetra.
