ok may sound like a silly question but thought that I had better check anyway. I am setting up a 4x2x2 for my fishies.I have a community tank set up mainly discus. In my current tank set up I have gravel plants some rock and driftwood. My new tank will be of the same set up but of course I will need to add some new gravel. When I remove my old stuff from the tanks to add to the new should I give it a good wash? I am not sure if the bacteria in the gravel is benefiicial to the balance in the tank or not.

Wash it all well. If the gravel is left undisturbed, it can develop anerobic areas that produce toxins that will poison your fish. Your filter should be where the good bacterial is, no water flows through the gravel, so a regular cleaning should be maintained.
