people tend to use gold fish to cycle tank ..cheap and disposable.

Don't add any fish to it.

Instead, add a raw prawn and let it rot for a few weeks, as this will supply the tank with NH3 and with your filters running it will cycle the tank without adding fish. After about 4 weeks test for NH3, NO2 and NO3 and if NH3 and NO2 are Nil and NO3 is giving a slight reading you can remove what is left of the prawn and add a few SAE's, Cory's and BN's. A few weeks after that you can begin to add your Discus, slowly.

It's not worth rushing when it comes to cycling a tank. If you do then certain death awaits your new pets.
