I have had this algae for a while now and its makes working in my fishtank a pain!!
This floating algae is a brownish green flim on the surface which getts thicker the longer i leave it.

I have a blowere set up that blows the surface algae to one end and i siphon it out. But it always comes back fast!!

I would like to introduce some dicsus soonish but would like to get this algea business sorted out first.

water paremeters are:

temp: 28
ph: 6.5
kh: 76
Gh: 107
Ammo: 0
Phospates: 0.5
nitrates:5
nitrites: 0

Im adding powdered potassium nitrates, and the sechem range according to need.

Cheers

This algae is still there after 4 days of leaving the tank in total darkness and no c02 input.????

Is there some chemical that i can add to kill it off?

Get an Eheim surface skimmer.

Hi moldyform,

Here is a link to the Fluval (Hagen) surface skimmer instruction manual.

http://www.hagen.com/usa/aquatic/manual.cfm

The Eheim one is dearer, but heaps better as it adjusts to the level of the aquarium.

Cheers

It may not be algae. I've noticed in most planted tank the film of oil buildup and quite high and blocks up lighting for the plants.

The use of a surface skimmer will do the job.

Let me know if you need any help getting it setup. It takes a bit to get them 'just right' in terms of flow levels and the like.
