Please start from the bottom and see if you can see a deformity in the caudal peduncle.

Mark,

I do not believe that you are being open minded. I personally saw your fish prior to shipment and they were high quality fish with no deformities. Your pictures clearly show that you received fish with no deformities. Even though we knew that you received fish that were exactly what you ordered, we still offered you a 20% discount on any future order. This was not good enough for you.

We obviously will not be able to come to an agreement on this. Please buy your fish elsewhere in the future.

Pat, Keith,

This is not satisfactory. The picture might not be perfect but it is perfectly clear as to what I’ve described. In addition, it is inconceivable to suggest this was not noticed prior to shipping. These fish were born with the problem and it must have been seen. How can you blatantly deny these fish are deformed? If you asked me to build you a state-of-the-art computer and I went into my attic and used three year parts, you would be irate and demand your money back. I’m not doing that, I just want honest service. 20% on the next purchase is ridiculous and absurd. I want un-deformed discus fish, you sent me TWO! Would you like me to next day them to your address so you can offer deformed discus at a lower price? Am I wasting my time? Are you going to keep blowing me off and acting in disbelief? I would like to have this corrected and I’m fairly open-minded about it.

We have already offered you a discount of 20% off, even though we can see nothing wrong with your fish.

Keith,

It turns out that the misshaped caudal peduncle on the green snakeskin and siam yellow master is a rather common deformity in discus. I am disappointed, to say the least, that you would send me these fish. Knowing that it is a deformity, these two fish have had the problem for a long time and certainly before they were delivered. I would like to have this corrected and I’m fairly open-minded about it. I really want healthy, un-deformed discus as that was what I expected to receive. I look forward to hearing back from you.

Mark,

We feed our discus a wide variety of food, with Beef Heart Flake being the main staple. We also feed them Frozen Blood Worms and Brine Shrimp, Freeze Dried Blood Worms, Brine Shrimp, Myosis Shrimp and Daphnia.

Thanks,

Keith

Keith,

I have attached four photos; one of each concern. They’re the best I can get without causing a ruckus. I actually noticed more trying to photograph the fish. The yellow also has a broken caudal peduncle. The red looks very, very thin. The Pigeon Blood photo was just for color and the green shows the broken caudal peduncle. I figured the caudal peduncle is much more severe than worrying about the pop-eye; the pop-eye was probably from the fouled shipping water (lots of waste in about 2½ cups of water). I looked the blue over pretty well and it seems fine. How about the food? I want to make sure I provide them with something similar and regularity until I can get them on my food.

Keith

I received my five discus fish today. The box was slightly wet and there was very little water in any the zip tied bags. The Green Snakeskin arrived lying on its side and has a broken caudal peduncle joint and pop-eye. It cannot stabilize itself although it is able to stay upright; looks like a fish on a trampoline. The Yellow Siam appears stunted by the size of its head compared to the size of its body. The Blue Diamond is the same size with a much narrower head. I would also like to know when the Pigeon Blood will turn color to Fire Dragon. Can you let me know what you are feeding, how often as well? I would like to know your thoughts especially concerning the snakeskin and Yellow Siam. Hopefully we can come to an understanding.

BTW, the blue colored up quickly and the red has no color but appears to be healthy like the blue.

Shame your not in Aus, our ACCC (competion and consumer comission) is becoming very strict on online pet sellers.

Is that an option for you?

BidDaddy1,
Mate it is very unfortunate that there are people who do this but the sad the thing is it has cost you money to find out that these people cannot be trusted to send you decent fish especially what you have paid for.I'm sure everybody on the forum will agree with me when I say anybody in the states should probably stay away from this place unless you go to their store and pick the exact fish you want and can walk out the door with them.Is there an agency you can go to about this mate? Here in Aus I would be straight on the phone to Dept of fair trading that is only if it was too far for me to go and see them personally ...if you know what I mean.
Hope you get it straightened out mate.
Regards,
Norto. :x

Norto,

I know you're not threatening physical violence by that statement, or condoneing it...

What you really wanted to say is that you would go visit them, for coffee, and IF something untoward happened after you left, then it couldn't possibly be your fault!

Not only do you not get what you asked for which is not right -
but the fish have had a terrible time of it as well..

I hope you can sort it out and that there is some "karma: that will come their way really really soon..

I would also hope there is somewhere to report them to...

regards, Sharon

Hey Sharon - what type of strain is the Discus in your picture... and do you have any close-ups?

A tough lesson learnt...

I have a fish that I bought from a non-discus specialist LFS with the same deformity. In hindsight I should have complained.

In my case it was impatience and ignorance that led me to choose my dodgy fish (who I still love BTW)

You soon learn what to look for in discus and while they may not be that easy to come by locally, it is worthwhile going out of your way to choose good ones from a reputable and specialist dealer.

Sorry you've had such a rough run mate!

Hey Sharon - what type of strain is the Discus in your picture... and do you have any close-ups?

I have asked the very same question..After letting the forum have a look at her - Apparently she is a red turk.. unfortunately though previous owners did not do the right thing by her and she is stunted.. But I love her just the same.. If you like I will try to get a close up of her markings and pm it to you :D :D

Thank you all very much for your comments. It feels great to know I am not alone in my feelings. I wish reporting them would make a difference but it doesn't here. I wish we had something like a discus authority. I would surely hook them up with the info. I know most of you guys are from what we call "down under" which is a very long way away but I still enjoy your company.

We've been stuck on an island for 200+ years now, it gets pretty lonely so we're always willing to make new friends (but beware, we are the decendants of convicts, so we might steal your wallet or car)

(but beware, we are the decendants of convicts, so we might steal your wallet or car)

....But not your deformed discus.

It really pisses me off to hear things like this. I feel terrible for you mate. I will be sure to tell all about your experiences and the place that took you money for a run. We have some really knowledgable people here at DF so you have come to the right place. Even if it is just to shake our head in disgust.

Feed them up, keep the water pure. Hopefully things will turnaround for you.

I thought I'd show a better picture. The Snakeskin wasn't outgoing today and has it worse.

Spot on Chriseddy I would only be going around there for a chat and a coffee too see if maybe you know we could work something out, and if we could not... then I've been known to pretty clumsy at times and some of their coffee may get spilt!!!.

BigDaddy1 feed them up on some good tucker (sorry food Aussie slang) Beefheart especially and Keep up the water changes and they will look 100% in no time.
Regards,
Norto.

Topic moved.

Was previously in the Sponsors section, and given that it does not have anything to do with a business we support it is best it be moved.

I thought I should let everyone know that after a couple weeks they have all began to develop some meat and do not look so skinny, malnourished, underfed and skeletal. I will post some photos soon. This yellow guy in the photo can't even move his upper lip when it eats!

I've been a member on this site for a long time now and it seems everyone who has purchased fish from the site you mentioned has had the same problem - fish are stunted, skinny, have poor colours and all pigeons are heavily peppered not resembling the fish pictured on the site.
