Hi folks,

and another discus lover from Adelaide; we´re setting up a 10ft / 1,200 litre tank at the moment and are looking for Heckel discus, as well as solid reds, eg Nhamunda, Ica, Traira or the like - not so much Marlboro Red and the like. We plan to have 15 to 20 discus in 2 swarms in the tank, along with buckets of tetras and a few catfish.

Is there anyone out there who has an idea where to get some of the above mentioned fish - as well as affordable plants (they are horrendously expensive down here...).

Thanks in advance for your help, mates, and hope to hear from you soon.

Cheers, Florian

Hi Florian, we've got quite a few enthusiastic members in Adelaide. I'm sure they'll introduce themselves shortly.

In the meantime, welcome to the forum. Your tank sounds great. I've got a ten foot jebo tank myself filled with wilds. Did have lots of tetras, but the discus keep eating them

How about doing a photo diary on the set up of your tank.

I'm sure lots of members would find it really interesting.

there are a few shop locally that u can get good fish if ur lucky and the timing is right, but in all honesty i think ur better off looking to some of the sponsers of discus forums ur probably going to have better luck at finding quality fish from them. from memory it costs about $60 a box to get them flown over to Adelaide airport for collection and if ur considering wilds $60 for freight is nothing.
one shop iv'e used a cpl of times is Fish Rock Aquarium in Sydney "forum sponser" and can thoroughly recommend them.

another alternative is to get a local fish shop like Aggies to order wilds in from bayfish. i think Aggies also have some small red spotted greens in @ the moment.
another cpl of places locally to look @ is rainbow aquatics "Brighton Rd" or clear water aquariums "Enfield" they used to get quality fish in a cpl of yrs ago, not sure any more though. there is also a large shop on Anzac h/way but iv'e found them way over prices on discus and the quality just isn't there.

Welcome Florian,

Totally agreed with Rob. I know that there is a LFS along handson rd which specialise in discus.

love to see your tank setup pictures. I know Rob sells pretty exotic plants. You can ask him if he have any left.

Good luck to that.
