a question on carbon in filters

Is it exceptable to use carbon in a filter in a planted discus tank , some experts say yes some say no what do you say as my new tank filtration system include a carbon cartridge and I'm in some doubt as to whether to use it or not
please help

i wouldn't it removes the minerals needed by your plants and discus, only use it to remove meds and toxins (short term use only).
