I am in the process of stocking my 4' tank and i have started with 6 red eye tetra's (Moenkhausia Sanctaefilomenae).

The problem I have with them at the moment is they are still hiding in amongst the plants at the back of the tank...

My thoughts were if I added another 6 of them it might encourage them to come out a little more... Safety in numbers...

Does anyone have any experience with them... Also what size will they eventually grow to??? one of my books says 7cm and the other 5cm?

I would also like some opinions on what I plan to add to the tank.

12 red eye tetras (thats all of the ones above...)
12 Phantom Tetras
4 Bronze Cory/catfish
2-4 Discus (once the rest of the tank settles down)

That should take me to about 190cm of fish.

Cheers!

ive owned red eyes and still do
extremly hardy with temp and ph
they are fine with big discus

with the small discus the red eye tend to eat much more food than the discus
frozen food is not cheap after a while
so i gave some away
