boost.puppy: they are available in oz, but they're import is illigal, so breeders here can sell fry, but dont expect change from $500 for a 3cm fish

Yep - that's about right for the cost of them down under.

And for that kind of photo shots - the gears can cost you 6x 3cm L046.

Awth,

I was in HK 2006 and found some L046s matured colony for sale in one of the shop at gold fish street and man what a bargain. They were going for $1200hk each. I was very tempted to grab them all but unfortunately I've chicken out due to the restriction on our import. How much did you paid for them if you don't mind me asking?

They are very nice.

Cheers
Hilton

Thx all.

Para: I once bought them 10yrs ago, they were only USD25, USD45 8yrs ago, USD70 6yrs ago, then I quited aquarium for couple years until 2 yrs ago, I picked up the hobby again, they were already USD160, I didn't bought any when I had the chance, cos I was thinking I bought them much much cheaper, why I have to over-pay for them now, I waited. 1 yr ago, they went up to USD230, I waited again. Now, for these 5pcs from 2 sources, I paid slighty more than half of what ILLUSN mentioned for 3cm, but in USD and they are 5.5-6cm.

Thomas: have you start saving yet? I expect to see you real soon in HK for the gears! CANON ONLY PLEASE, excuse me, non-Canon fans!!!! :P

Illusn: no probelm, here you go. Those Ranchu were just temporary resident, of course, they have their own tank now. The caves, they are handmade and I ordered them from Germany and they also make Apisto caves. From my observation, 99% of all my Apisto prefer to breed in these German caves rather than an oridinary cave. I wonder what are the material the German used.

Some more pic, since I got 5pcs more on last weekend.
The new resident are still hidding, except the one with thin black stripe. It's pics are over-exposed, since it's white is more bright than than the rest. I may need to try another camera setting when I have time.

Still no luck in breeding them, but I will be patient. :D

Whats the difficulty of getting these in Oz?

I imagine they would be ridiculously hard to breed in captivity, if not impossible, but is there some moral issue with importing, as I can't forsee them being any more of a pest that other breeds regularly imported.

those fish make me concider immigration!

ChrisEddy85 THEY ARE AN ILLEGAL IMPORT (I HAVE NO IDEA WHY) also they only have small clutches of eggs round 9-20, factor in a survival rate of around 50-80% and you see why they're hard to get.

ChrisEddy85
Wed Jul 30, 2008, 08:28 AM
Couldn't you just pull a "Corby" and stick $1k in the box you're importing them in?

They must have been considered a threat to indiginous species. Do you know at what temperatures they survive at and any reasons they might be considered a pest?

ILLUSN
Thu Jul 31, 2008, 08:13 AM
with such a low reproductive rate there is no way these fish would be a problem, they demand excellent water, they take forever to mature and at best you'll get 20 eggs with an effectily 0% survival rate.

they're proably a banned import because wild populations are in decline and they are a pain to find and catch in the wild.

Its a shame, really. Quite often the hobby trade will conserve the species in total, but generally all the conservationists just want is the wild populations. At least in captivity they can be looked after etc.

Better to have them in captivity than none at all, right?

BEUTIFUL PHOTOS ONCE AGAIN!

whats the royal whip doing in there?

It was in my CRS tank, but now I quitted CRS and turn it into another I.Adoketa tank. So, it has to go with my L46, it is now 13-14cm, from just 5-6cm when I bought it. :D

That was 2 pages of pleasure and i want some so bad

Can you tell us what these are going for in Hong Kong in AU dollars

And in answer to all the other posters i believe that all plecos are illegal and so many other species of fish which are already here

Can you imagine the aquarium industry if they where to enforce all these species bans....it's too horrible to contemplate
