DIY co2 Question

Gday Discus Nuts,

I have been reading a bit about do it yourself co2, My question is if I run a diy co2 does the co2 gas have to be feed directly into the tank or could you have it bubbling into your sump of a trickle filter ? Would it do the same job ?? As it will be a display tank the less amount of tubes visible in the tank the better.

Just run the line of the co2 straight into the return pump in the sump
mayb just make the return outlet so that it fizzesout (like the attachments that go on the rio pumps)or just crimp the end of the outlet(heat and then crimp with pliers)
