I saw a picture in a magazine of a red bodied discus with black fins. I was wondering what discus they are.

Thanks,
Alex

They look like clean red melons to me, good looking fish, very clean for pigion blood.

Ah Ok, I always thought red melons had white faces.

they look color enhanced to me, they could be FOTU (first of the universe), but even then the one on the right facing the camera definately has a lighter face.

I've also never seen melons with black fins. I always thought they were white.

most of my melons have black fins and a black tails, maybe its just the strain we get in Oz, they are concidered undesirable traits, fins and tails are suppose to be clear.

to be fair they do darken up ALOT when kept in a planted tank (as mine were).

Marlboro Red fish also have black tails and fins, and it's perfectly acceptable. Unfortunately along with the black fins you usually get a fair amount of peppering on the face and body.

The breeders are working hard to clear the fish of peppering, but it will still show up in some fish.
