there appears to be confusion galore about this topic.

how long do the fry need to stay with the parents allowing for max growth??

Hello Jim, good to hear from you.

I guess a lot of breeders will have different ideas. Anything from two weeks to two months seems normal, depending on how the parents are going.

I like to leave my fry with the parents for as long as they will tolerate them, and still remain in good condition. If they show signs of spawning again, then the fry need to be removed or if the parents are starting to look a bit tattered, then it's time to give them a break from their ravenous fry.

I believe on the big breeding farms, that ten days to two weeks is the usual time, because they want to encourage the parents to spawn again. Obviously fry removed that early require the best possible care, and feeding eight or nine times a day along with twice daily water changes.

Thanks for the reply.

I read in Andrew's book that he cycles at 3 days, seems much too little to me. But than he breeds professionally. I will take your advice.
