Cannister's for a 6x2x2 tank Which 1 to go for???

Im in the progress of getting a 6x2x2 tank and need peoples opinion on what cannister filters would they run if they had that size tank. Best value for money, i have recently only ran aqua one on other tanks and have had problems with them so for this tank im gonig to spend a bit extra on some quality cannisters.

Wow just saw they retail for around $700, are they worth spending that much on a filter. Anywhere else where they are cheaper??

you get what you pay for, the built quality is second to none, it uses 30w of power (1/2 that of an fx5 or aquis 2400 and eheim 2260). its got 12L of biomedia. if you wanted to save some $$ the next choice would be eheim 2260, but the 2080 is a FAR better filter.

what ever filter you buy you'd be crazy not to put the best biomedia in it and the eheim media is right up there.

I've got one of these on a 6x2x2 and i'm looking to get 2 more for a 1500 indoor pond to grow up some baby discus.

both filters have a media pack which you can purchess seperately, i think the 2080 retails for $180, the 2260 for $240.

both will have all you need for their respective filter.

other good biomedia includes JBL micromech, sera siporax, and seachem matrix, the eheim packs are much better value for money.

I would consider getting two x Eheim 2217's @ $234.00 each that's a total of $468.00 complete with filter media and gives you the benefit of being able to clean one filter whilst leaving one untouched.

might have to look at getting 2 x 2217 filters, I wouldnt need 2 x 2080 would I, 1 would be enough flow. Dont no which way to go any other opinions

I no Ben thats what you said on the phone the other day, but i cant see myself spending $1000 on a filter, i problaly will buy a 2080 thought maybe, just weighing up my options

it would take 3 2217s to perform as well as a 2080, i've got 2 2217s on a 4x2x2, i'll be swapping them for a 2080 as soon as i can send my wife out of town for a weekend.

Your only real optiions with any form of semi decent support are AquaOne Aquis 2400 Fluval FX5 or Eheim 2080.
The Aquis is only really good for a 4x2x2 at best (I've got one).
2080 is handeling my 6x2x2 quite well.

I still think the Eheim is your best bet.

405 is at its ABSOLUTE BEST equall to a 2217 in terms of performance.

no way good enough for a 6 foot discus tank, try 2 and you might be able to get away with a 6'x20"x14" discus tank.

Fluval 405's are complete utter total JUNK ...... a corner box filter would do a better job.

If you can afford it then go with the big Eheim. Alternatively an Eheim 2250 Classic is also good option if you just want one filter for your 6x2x2.

But I must agree with those who run two canister filters and service them on an alternating schedule, as this is what I do with my Eheim 2228 and Aqua One Aquis 2450 filters as I feel a little more confident that if I accidentally harm the nitrifying bacteria at least I have another fully functional filter to 'cover up' any mistakes and keep the water safe for my fish.

However if you do decide on getting an Aqua One Aquis 24xx filter just keep the foam filter pads but throw away the Aqua One bio media that it comes with and instead use Eheim bio media.

I have packed my Aqua One 2450 with Eheim media, and I use generic filter wool for the very last filtration stage (under the black foam filter pad). Also when you put it all back together make sure you don't over-fill the media baskets and ensure all 4 media baskets 'mesh' correctly or you can get a fair bit of by-pass with the Aqua Ones, but providing you set them up right they work extremely well for the money.

not really get 2 2217's $499.90(AU) for the pair.
in stead of a 2028 $499.95(AU).

as you can see more filtration for a cheeper price put one at each end of your tank for best results.
