I've had these guys around 3 months. Bought two pairs. Lately they have been fighting a lot and last night I discovered why

One pair have hatched eggs and are keeping their babies in a nest under some plants.

Cute little guys. They are doing a great job of protecting their babies from the ever hungry wild heckels :?

A shop in Richmond. They're not sponsors, so I will PM you with the name.

Amazing how much better most fish look when kept in favorable conditions!

Be interesting if they can raise any with discus on the prowl.

I hadn't really intended to spawn these guys. I was really just after some nice looking dither fish to keep the heckels company, but they seem to have found the conditions to their liking.

Most of my tanks are kept pretty natural. Algae is allowed to grow (except in the planted display tank) and the water is stained with tannins from leaf litter and driftwood. Not ideal to take photos, but the fish are happier and the colours are much more intense.

Fry are free swimming tonight and mum and dad are doing a great job of protecting their hundred or so babies.

Heckels aren't allowed anywhere near them. Great parents :P
