Gonna do a lil journal of progress in Angelfishie's tank

There wont be any discus in here, but prolly will house some german blue rams, and maybe 2-3 angelfish.....didnt really know where to put this thread...here or discus tankmates?

Anyways, its a planted tank...no fish yet, so CO2 is "cranked" :!:

Just started this over the weekend....again! There were some "issues" with keeping fish alive in this tank in the past, but here we are now

Day 1

Thanks Rob! I think it will go well this time around! We are gonna wait to add some fish, and really get the plants going in the meantime

Tank is 29gallons.....CO2 is cranked and on for 11 hours, lights are 1x65watt 6700K and 1x65watt 10000K on for 10 hours at 4.5wpg, dry ferts, root tabs, and plant sticks, temp about 80F

pH with lights and co2 on is 6.8, kH of 7, gH of 10. PH with lights off is about 7.4....we are gonna add RO water to bring these readings down just a lil bit

We made some good changes to the setup as far as intake and spray bar goes, and there is much better flow through the tank this time, and I think that will help

When we get fish we will prolly start off with some yo-yo loaches to eat the snails...are they hardy enough to be considered "starter fish"?

I will keep this thread updated as often as possible, depends on how things grow, but I think it should fill in nicely

Thanks again very much :D

Thanks scott :D Will do!

Prolly get yo yo loaches first, and then move onto some german blue rams....angels will be last, if we even get them....maybe 3-4 weeks till we get some fish in there, depending on how the plants grow

Thanks again :D

Altums would look very nice in there

Thanks very much ILLUSN!

With the tank being a 29 gallon...how many angels can I get away with, if we go 2xYoyo loaches, and say 4-6 german blue rams?

Im hoping to keep the algae under control, so any algae eaters would prolly go last, or whenever algae becomes a major issue?

Thanks very much...angelfishie really likes baby angelfish, but she isnt so sure of them when they grow up......does anyone have pics of adult altums?

Thanks again...Im hoping to update this on at least a weekly basis :D

While I'm new at Discus, I've kept Angels for quite some time. :) I wouldn't recommend putting any more than 2 full grown Angels in a 29. While still social, when Angels reach adulthood they are going to like their own space. If you have more than two and a couple pair up, well you are in for big trouble.

I wouldn't keep any more than two pairs of German Blue Rams. The reason I say this is because a well maintained planted tank is almost certainly going to cause them to spawn. Having more than four could cause some serious trouble.

Angels and Rams should pretty much ignore each other.

I have no experience with any loaches, so I can't chime in there.

You are off to a great start and I look forward to seeing how it grows out in the future!

Thanks very much FreekIndeed :)

I appreciate your input! :) Im glad rams and angels will pretty much ignore eachother

Do you know how to tell the sex of angelfish, or are they like discus, and you cant really tell until they spawn?

I will check back when we are closer to getting fish...you know how things change! hahaha

Thanks for the compliments! I hopefully will have updated tank shots this weekend :D

Suggestions on scaping are welcomed! I know next to nothing about how people get away with jamming all these plants next to eachother, to where all you see is a nice clump of different pretty color "tops" of plants sticking out...like you see in the pics on here, and everywhere else

Thanks

So....it started off well............

Then we ran into algae problems...I didnt think we would have these problems :?

We are using 1x65w 6700K CF, and 1x65w 10000K CF for 10 hours a day...12pm-10pm. CO2 is on FAST from 10am-10pm....EI dosing with dry ferts....still no fish. Surprisingly enough.....still have some snails living in there....i would have thought all this co2 would have knocked them out by now

I dont have water parameters to update you with ATM

Here are the pics

Any algae Help please?

Thanks as always!
