I have recently done a check of my water parrameter and my nitrate is at 160. Can discus live in these conditions? How can I reduce my nitrate levels?

I have done 2 water changes in the past week and I don't think the nitrate has budged at all. What am I doing wrong?

The situation is urgent !

Do a 50% water change immediately to dilute the nitrates. Do a thorough gravel vac and search for dead fish or stale food in and around plants or driftwood.

Test your water coming out of the tap for nitrate levels. You may find your tap water is adding to the nitrates.

If your tap water tests fine, then do a a 50% waterchange every day till you bring the nitrates down to under 10.

How old is your test kit. Out of date kits can give a false reading.

I am doing a WC as we speak and my tap water reads no nitrate at all.

Thanks for the advice
