i have just tested my tap water for its hardness and i was quite suprised with the results
kh = 40mg/l
gh = 60mg/l

what i need to know is that was straight out of my tap with no ageing or aerating or dechlorinater is this too soft or does this seem right and would this change if i heated it or aerated it or dechlorinated it i have not been able to check any other parameters yet as i brought my kits online so waiting for them to be delivered cheers guys

That is really really soft water. With heating and aeration they shouldn't change much. KH may shift a bit as CO2 reequilibrates, but GH won't go anywhere.

You may want to think about adding a buffer to the water to help control the pH. Without much carbonate hardness you could have trouble keeping that reasonably stable.

ok but if that is coming out my tap then surely it will be easy to keep stable and what sort hardness should i be looking to achieve thank you
