i really want to get a pair of these guys but at my local fish shop they only have small ones ( 3cm) can you pick male from female at this size, if so what should i look for. Ta

I reckon an inch long borelli would be already sexable. The males and females are pretty different. Just look for the bigger fins of the male

as rob says males dorsal fins about same depth as body , females about only half of body depth

males anal fin more pointed females more rounded

pectoral fins on female more black at body , and males longer thinner extensions
