Hi Guys,

I've bought some earthworms from my local aquarium shop, which are in peat, how should I prepare them for feeding, should I wash them first and if so, what should I wash them in?

Stan.

Hi Stan. what you want to do is purge them. Place the worms without peat in slightly damp newspaper and leave them be for 24 hours. this cleans out their little guts.

Make sure they are small as i have found in the past discus will not touch big worms.

Earth worms are very high in fat so a good treat food and probably not so much of a staple. Once a week or two I have been told is a good thing.

If they are to big give them a spin in a blender or just chop them up. I include them in my food mix. You can purge them but it's not reallly neccessary

Thanks MAC and apistodiscus for your input. Blending them sounds like a good idea, then I could use them in feeding in smaller portions over a couple of times a week, not going to spoil them too much :D
I just bought them for something different and as a little bit of an experiment, hopefully the discus will enjoy them.

LoL, they'll enjoy them alright. It's also very funny watching Discus eat earthworms for the first time whole, take note and have a laugh.
