Hi all

Chemistry question here:

Would Peet filtered water give a false Phosphate reading ?
or does Peet have Phos ?

reason for asking: I just did a phos test on tank, got real high phos readings, highest colour that card shows.
So I then tested tap water, 0 phos, tested RO water purchased, 0 phos
tested RO water with a few bits of peet (proper purchased peet) and high readings !!!!

I dont have algae problems either, i thought this would be give away for high phos reading.

PH is stable at 6.8 temp 30
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10

Lost for answer, and what i should do next if anything ?

Any insight would be great
Thansk heaps

mistakes r crucial

You have to be careful which peat you buy for use in your tanks, many of them for the garden have all sorts of weird and wonderful chemicals in them. Either spend the big bucks and buy German peat (Eheim etc) from your LFS or find a brand such as Sunshine Peat (Canadian) which are chemical free. Last time I bought the latter it was $28 for a 20kg bale, cheap as. Just be aware that some bales, depending on how deep it's come from, can contain traces of Ammonia. I've had readings up around .25, nothing a drop of Prime won't fix.
