Hi,

Are there alternative medicine than Methylene blue, to be used on eggs that are just laid to prevent fungus? Thanks.

Lowering the pH will help a lot.

Fungus doesn't grow well in an acid environment.

Get your tank down to 6 or 6.5 before the fish spawn, and you should have more success.

formalin based on 37% formaldhyde
use 1-2mls/litre for upto 15 minutes
or 0.23mls /litre for upto 60 minutes

do not use in the 24 hrs before hatch

other anti fungals like malachite green, primafix or strong oxidants like permanganate may work though i have not refrenced dose's

Hydrogen Peroxide at 3% is another one but I can't find the dosage rates, the joys of moving house.

Thanks for the replies. I have read that meth blue will stain the silicone and filters. Will it stain the heater too? Any way to prevent it from staining the objects in the tank?

Yes it will stain everything, but a good soak in bleach afterwards will remove any staining, even from the silicone in the tanks. Obviously, you don't have any fish in contact with bleach LOL
