I currently have 2 community planted tanks and im looking to set up my first discus tank a 4 footer 140 litres tank quite shallow and Im looking for advice on most category. I am mostly wondering what the best type of filter (combination of necessary) and materials to use in it for this tank with 6 to 8 discus. I was also wondering if a 40 watt globe would be sufficient to grow java fern and java moss on driftwood in the tank. I am also wondering what is the best food combination and water change rate. Any advice on any or all of my questions would be greatly appreciated. thanx

A dry wet (trickle) filter seems to be preferred for multiple or very large tanks ... but they are expensive unless you go down the DIY route. Alot of people have.

After that, you should consider cannister filters .... quite a few good ones on the market which you can size to your tank.
