View Full Version : do discus eat cardinal tetras?

Hi all
i have noticed a few, 3-4 cardinal tetras go mia in the last 24 hrs
havent found any dead ones so i have to assume that 1 or 2 of my discus have eaten them.

do discus usually eat other fish like cardinal tetras?

Yes.

Cardinals/Neons make excellent snacks for discus.
However this is only when the tetras are very small fish. Discus will not touch Cardinals/Neons that are larger than about 25mm.

Like most big fish if it fits in their mouth they will eat it ,i used to have a customer who would but 100 neons each month to go in his discus tank just for food.May be go for larger tetras rummy nose,congo tetras or black widow tetras.

Cardinal tetras are fine for discus tanks - they grow to 50mm, but when small they wont last. I disagree with shops selling these tetras at such small sizes but you really need to buy them when they are 25mm long.

they were about 1.5cm--i thought they might of been a bit small,and might of become dinner for the lge discus. :P

awh well have to get a few bigger ones next time
